"The End of Poverty" - Written by Jeffry Sachs
"Extreme poverty can be ended, not in the time of our grandchildren,
but our time."
Thus forecasts Jeffrey D. Sachs. His years of experience as
one of the world’s top economists helps him shed light on the most vital issues facing our planet: the causes of poverty,
the role of rich-country policies, and the very real possibilities for a poverty-free future.
Rather than a sense of how daunting the world's problems
are, Sachs provides an understanding of how solvable they are — and why making the effort is both our ethical duty and
a self-interested strategic necessity.

"Dude ... Where's My Country?" - Written by Michael Moore
Dude where's my country is basically the book of Farenheit 9/11(except it came out first). It's actually probably
better than the movie, but nobody reads anymore, so nobody knows. It puts up more relevant facts, it's more anti oil, and
explains more about how oil affects our environment and the economy. It puts up good points about social classes and
points out how the Bush administration has abused religion, and he has an entire chapter written from the point of view of
god, with god saying George definetley doesn't do his speaking for him, and by the way, didn't we already seperate government
and religion?
Of course a book coming from Michael Moore is pretty much expected to trash GWB, and does fairly consistently throughout.
He has a brilliant chapter about his great grand daughter (100 years in the future in a dream) asking him about why we wasted
all our resources in the present day, and gives you a quick educational run down of all the things oil makes that aren't gasoline
(like plastic etc.). Social classes (as with most things Moore does) are the underlying theme of the book, and Moore
does an excellent job as usual of letting everyone know what the rich want the poor to do (ie. join the army and protect their
money). He revealed that the democrats have essentially given up until Hillary runs in 08, and points out how inaccurate
opinion polls are, and how liberal has become a bad word. He also points out that most americans still believe they
can get rich overnight and that is why they keep supporting the likes of Bush (someday I might be rich and need that tax break
for my millions). He also points out that fundementally most americans are much more leftwing than they admit (medicinal
marijuana, pro choice, etc.). Of course the main message is...dude where's my counrty, why are americans all living
in fear (when their supposed to be so tough ,cocky and confident)? Why don't they want to help the less fortunate? Why
would government take away pensions and let schools go to shit, not to mention fucking the economy? Basically this book
points out what everybody knows about americans, except americans. He says alot of things that have to be said, and
he's funny as hell in the process. Stellar Book. Fuck capitalism, Oprah for president!

"The Lord of War"
Director: Andrew Niccol
Starring: Nicolas Cage, Bridget Moynahan, and Jared Leto
Director Andrew Niccol’s
latest film, “Lord of War,” is one giant public service announcement on the how-to of gunrunning. It even opens
with the following statistic: “There are over 550 million firearms in worldwide circulation. That’s one gun for
every twelve people on the planet.” And in sticking with the reality of the subject matter, Niccol also states that
his film is based on actual events, so much so that the hyperrealism is unsurprisingly more enjoyable to watch as a narrative
than if a documentary were made on the same topic. The fact that Niccol borrowed actual weapons of war from real life gunrunners
just days before they were shipped for use in real wars gives you but a small taste of the comical irony surrounding this
film.
- Review from www.bullz-eye.com
This is an amazing film. A lot of people knock Nic Cage, but I have
no problem standing here and saying he is one of the greatest actors of our time, no question. This movie is no exception
to the rule of ass kicking and personal struggle that Cage is known for. Quite frankly, Cage has taken social commentary
to a new level. A full 5 Stars from the SRN Team.
